After a highly successful VTEC 2021 (online) & VTEC 2023 (in person in Banff) events hosted by the Canadian organising committee, the next instalment of the VTEC triennial series will be held Sunday 10th May to Wednesday 13th May 2026 at the P&J Live state-of-the-art conference venue in Aberdeen, Scotland.

This event represents an opportunity for the VTEC community to come together and share the latest research in all fields of VTEC investigation as a One Health perspective. It is an excellent opportunity to network, reinforce the liaisons already in place and help grow up new scientific-stakeholder consortia around common research interests. Among the unique setting of Scotland’s beautiful surrounding and rich history, Aberdeen is an ideal environment for VTEC creativity.

Originally started in 1986 in Toronto, this symposium has become the flagship international meeting covering all aspects of Verotoxigenic / Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (VTEC / STEC) particularly E. coli O157:H7, pathogenesis, host immune response, epidemiology, diagnostics, management and prevention. Past meetings have been held in Toronto, Edinburgh, Melbourne, Bergamo, Buenos Aires, Amsterdam, Boston, Florence and Banff. Typically, the symposium-based meeting attracts nearly 500 researchers, clinicians and trainees from around the world. The science extends across the areas of human health, agriculture and regulatory guidance highlighting the most recent trends and developments in VTEC research.
